Country music superstar Taylor Swift has become artist of the year 2011 and won three trophies at the 39th annual American Music Awards Sunday night. This is for the second time she has become the artist of the year. Only a few weeks ago she took away Country Music Awards and she was named entertainer of the year at that ceremony. "This is so crazy!" the country superstar said after beat such contenders as Adele, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to capture all three awards that she was nominated for.
Moreover she won favorite country female artist for a fourth straight year and favorite country album, bringing to 10 the number of AMA trophies on her shelf in her young career. British soul diva Adele also won three gongs, but unlike the last year Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber got nothing. Other winners included Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj, who won both rap/hip-hop gongs up for grabs. Fellow serial award winners Lady Antebellum won the Favourite Country Band/Duo/Group award.
Beyonce won award as best Female Artist in the soul/R&B category. Usher won Best Male Artist in the same category. Rihanna won Best Soul/R&B Album for "Loud." Nicki Minaj beat Lil Wayne and Kanye West to win Best Rap/Hip-hop Artist, her first AMA -- and then quickly won her second, for Best Rap/Hip-hop Album for "Pink Friday." Best New Artist went to Hot Chelle Rae, who have already had a hit with "Tonight Tonight"
Favorite country male artist award was given to Blake Shelton. Casting Crowns won as favorite contemporary inspirational artist and Foo Fighters for favorite alternative rock artis. Jennifer Lopez won the favorite Latin music artist award.
