From Sunday October 29 Halloween eve is going to be celebrated. But the eve which is mostly known as Devil's Night is embraced by vandals and arsonists to commit acts ranging from mischief to destruction. As a result the city once again asked for volunteers to patrol the streets to cut down on potential arsons.

“What we’re asking is if you are not patrolling or not volunteering and you are at home that you keep your eyes open for any suspicious activity,” said police chief Alvern Lock. “If you see anything, call 911.” In 2006 the city reported 17 arsons between midnight Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. Nov. 1. The city had 11 arsons in 2007, 13 in 2008 and five in 2009 between midnight Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. Nov. 1, and three last year.
This year, therefore, volunteers will be driving around the city keeping an eye out for suspicious behavior. Each volunteer is equipped with a flashlight, free t-shirt, and a map. Some opines that more volunteers are needed and to join a phone number{(313) 224-3450} is also provided.
